Session Dates
Session I: Midwifery Model of Care Basics | March 30 – April 1, 2012
Introduction to midwifery including history, philosophy, politics and various pathways of study. Anatomy and physiology, preceptor-apprentice relationships and midwifery equipment are covered.

Session II: Normal Prenatal Care | April 27-29, 2012
What and how to do prenatal care including: obtaining a history, performing a basic physical exam, performing a basic gynological exam and performing a routine prenatal exam and paperwork.

Session III: Normal Labor, Birth & Immediate Post Partum | May 18-20, 2012
Study and practice midwifery skills and care essential for normal physiologic labor and birth. Study immediate postpartum care and uses of the placenta.

Session IV: Complications in Prenatal Care, Labor and Birth | June 8-10, 2012
This session examines the realm of complications in all aspects of childbearing.

Session V: Post Partum Care and Newborn Care | July 6-8, 2012
This session examines midwifery care in the postpartum period for both mother and baby.

Session VI: Breastfeeding Support, Well-Woman Care, Herbs & Homeopathy | Aug 3-5, 2012
A study of breastfeeding physiology and support and well-women care. Delve into an understanding of Homeopathics & plants for the childbearing year.

Session VII : Women Helping Women Skills-fest | September 7-9, 2012
Midwifery Skills-fest – learn skills, drill skills and perform/sign skills. Multiple hands-on scenarios to test your midwifery skills performance. Neonatal Resuscitation Certification Class. SMMS Reunion. Open House. Delve deeply into Preceptor-Apprentice Relationships and an understanding of Coyote Mentoring Midwifery Education. Workshop plants for the childbearing year. Opportunity to teach beginning midwifery skills, showcase your work and share your knowledge.

Session VIII: Advanced Skills | October 19-21, 2012
Hands-on advanced skills including IV skills, blood draws, injections, suturing and more.

Session IX: Midwifery Practice Essentials | November 16-18, 2012
Explore women's ways of knowing and ceremony, examine skills essential to your practice, assimilate practice paperwork and prepare for the CPM exam.
